Manufacturing businesses are finding it difficult to export goods from the UK because of red tape, according to a recent study.

A survey by the Federation of Small Businesses found 23 per cent of its members export goods.

Yet current Government figures show only 10 percent of exports are sold by small firms.

And one in three said that red tape and bureaucracy were the main challenges faced.

The FSB spoke to 1,600 of its members and is urging the Government to help exporters.

FBS policy chairman Mike Cherry said "With the UK economy in fragile recovery, a number of well targeted initiatives could be just the ticket that small business exporters and government are looking for to help the private sector-led recovery."
